Many women patients in my clinic find it beneficial taking supplements rich in phytoestrogen such as lignans. The answer is dependent on your situation. Phytoestrogen has different effect on different situations.
Phytoestrogen is a weaker form of estrogen. In structure, it is similar to estradiol. But in effect, it is a lot weaker. When the body has a lot of its internal estrogen supply, an addition of phytoestrogen from foods actually make the total estrogenic effect less in the body, because it occupies some of the estrogen receptors which would otherwise occupied by the real more potent estrogen. On the other hand, if the body's own supply of estrogen is scarce, eating more phytoestrogen actually enhances the estrogenic effect of to the body.

One of the good books on diet is by Walter Last. Here're some very good points of his on raw foods:
The main biochemical and nutritional benefit of eating raw foods as compared to cooked foods:
1. A higher vitamin and mineral content
2. Minerals are largely present as biologically active colloids
3. An abundance of helpful enzymes and bio-energy or life-force
4. Proteins remain in their natural condition instead of being denatured
5. The absence of digestive leukocytosis
Antibiotics can harm tendons, FDA warns. Yes, I know what you are going to say, "I used it because I have to - kill the bacteria, not because I like the side effects."
Life is full of compromise, isn't it?
On the other hand, what if we don't "have to"? In the 5000 year Chinese medicine, it was said that top medicine treats people when they are healthy, middle medicine heals people when they are about to get sick (or in sub-healthy condition), low medicine deals with people when they are sick.

My parents both have had high glucose level, and regularly taken diabetes drugs to control. I told them about bad side effects of these drugs and it's better to use diet to treat the disease, only to be told "We're in our 70's, why should we suffer by not eating what we like?"
Well, last fall, they came to visit us, and stayed for a couple of months. Simply by eating with us, with a healthier diet, now both of them are off the drugs. "We learned how your guys eat. Now we don't even want to get back to our previous diet. It feels so good!"

Many "experts" would give advice on eating healthy foods such as whole grains, vegetables, fruits, etc. They also single out special high nutrients foods such as oats.

Dr. Milam, President of New Spirit, a high quality manufacturer of nutritional products, told me that this little bottle of green essence extracts from approximately 200 lbs of greens.
