There have been lots of controversies about the relationship between animal protein and degenerative diseases such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, heart diseases, etc.
For example, in the book The China Study, Dr. Colin Campbell eloquently presented tremendous scientific data demonstrating that animal protein has a direct causal relationship to degenerative diseases. But a recent large scale study said the opposite. Not only animal protein does not cause cancer, but it actually help reduce it. Isn't that pretty confusing?
What about the Masai people, whose diet is completely on raw cow milk and blood without any carbohydrates? They are one of the healthiest people! What about the mogolians and the eskimos? They are all animal protein eaters. But they are known to be pretty healthy.
Scientific studies sometimes draw quick generalized conclusions based on a particular set of conditions. For example, most of the study is for people to eat animal proteins derived from hormone fed, antibiotic protected, cage raised animals. This kind of animal proteins can definitely cause cancer. However, if you eat the cleanest animal proteins, such as the Masai people, it can be health enhancing.
Another example is the notion that eating carbohydrates are weight gaining. But the carbohydrates referred to here are refined, processed, and over cooked carbohydrates. On the other hand, whole food carbohydrates such as raw vegetables, raw fruits, raw milled flexseeds, etc. are very good foods.
To answer the fundamental questions, YBM Diet tries to stay away from animal proteins, mostly because the animals are fed with hormones, antibiotics, and experience an unnaturally accelerated fast growth. YBM Diet also tries to eat raw whole complex carbohydrates, which promotes health and longevity.
